Spa-Like Bathroom Is a Must-Have

Stop spending a fortune on visiting your local spa or having to schedule spa appointments at inconvenient times. You can turn your bathroom into the spa of your dreams, and use it anytime. When you’re remodeling the bathroom, consider how valuable the spa will be when you come home after a long day and work and want to unwind and relax. The move will also create a special space where you and your loved one can spend time together. Here’s how to turn your bathroom into a sanctuary.

  • Install heated floors. Nothing says spa like stepping out of the shower or tub onto a warmed floor – especially during those cold winter days. These floors are not only a luxury, but they’re economical too. They warm humans by conduction, warming the flooring itself and any item – or person – that comes into contact with them.
  • Turn to steam. Your standard shower area can become steam central with a steam shower. Combine the steam shower with aromatherapy and you’ve got a recipe for relaxation. What many will think of as a luxury, the steam shower can become the one constant in your life that truly helps you relax from the stress of the day.
  • install a bidet. Perhaps a rather uncommon feature in most American bathrooms, the bidet is commonplace in many other countries. Try it once, however, and you’ll be hooked. The warm, aerated spray of water that sprouts up to do the work that toilet tissue does, gets a cleaner, fresher result.
  • Use chromotherapy. These are essentially the lighting that spas use to infuse a feel-good atmosphere. You can install these in your bathroom, in the tub or shower, to boost the therapeutic value of the room. As the water sprays down, accompanying light brings instant health benefits.
  • Use dimmers. Another essential lighting component involves installing task lighting over sinks and by cabinets, as well as mood lighting. Being able to dim the lights will bring an instant spa feel while offering a low-cost way to drive the bathroom’s value.
  • Paint it with purpose. Some colors say “spa,” while others definitely don’t. Refreshing, soothing colors lend a spa-like feel. Go with soft hues of white, grey or blue for a fresh look. Complement the walls with a bright, white toilet, tub and sink to lighten the bathroom’s look and make it feel very clean.
  • Add a towel warmer. Nothing says luxury like a warm towel. Whether you’re stepping out of the shower and need to wrap up in a towel, drying your hands or washing your face, with a towel warmer, you can keep all of these essential warm to the touch at all times.
  • Bring on the mood. Fill the space with essential spa must-haves. Dot the area around the tub with scented candles. But make sure they’re safe. You don’t want to easily knock the candles over when you’re getting into the tub. Put them on window ledges, shelving and counters to enhance the mood. Stock the bathroom with fresh, clean, white robes and other spa luxuries, like mud masks, lotions and soft towels.
  • Add the final touch. For the final spa enhancement, install a stereo system, or at least one speaker to which you can attach your ipod, to fill the room with soothing, spa-like music.

Make your spa-like bathroom the retreat you need to destress and get away from it all – without having to leave your home. A heated floor, steam shower, chromotherapy and bidet give it the feel you’re going for. Install the right lighting with dimmers, a towel warmer and final mood enhancements to ensure your bathroom is the spa of your dreams.
