Fall is the Best Time to Pull the Trigger on Your Basement Redo

As the lazy days of summer come to a close, your life probably starts to get back to a routine.

A couple different things can happen.

You either have a little extra time on your hands to make some plans for home improvements or you realize how crazy life is that you need more living space!

Finishing your basement is a great way to add value to your home and to give everyone in the family some extra breathing room.

Here are some ideas for your basement redo.

A place for family time

The busier your family gets, the more you recognize the value of quality time together as a family.

Creating a space where you can all spread out and enjoy each other is priceless.

Take your cues from the personality of your family and what activities you enjoy, but here are some options you may want to consider:

  • Home theater. If movies are your thing, creating a special place to view the may be perfect. Taking care of this during the fall ensures that it will be ready to go for those cozy winter days and nights.
  • Game room. The family that plays together, stays together! You can go big with a ping-pong or air hockey table for serious competition. If board games are more your speed, arrange some fluffy furniture around a table that can be used for game play. A snack bar goes really well with a game room, too!
  • Workout room. If your family likes to exercise and stay active together, create a space where you can run on a treadmill, do some yoga, hop on the elliptical, or lift weights.

Homework station

It’s great for kids to have a designated area in which to do their homework.

As they get older, their workload will probably grow and they need a place to do their work that’s not just lying on their bed or lounging on the couch.

A basement is a great place to set up an organized, quiet spot for your little geniuses to get smarter!

Playroom

If you have little ones, you know how your whole house can become a playroom very quickly.

Making your basement an area in which kids can play and keep all their toys may be a sanity saver.

Bright colors, plenty of shelving, cozy furniture for story time, and plenty of room to run will be a dream come true for your children!

Getting the playroom done during the fall ensures that there’s a lot to do and space to burn off energy during the winter months.

An extra bedroom

If you frequently host guests, utilizing your basement for an additional bedroom is a great idea.

If you’re able to add a bathroom to go with your new guest room, you’ll be adding a great deal of value to your home – and to your visitors’ experiences!

Your holiday guests will thank you if you have a space ready just for them this year!

Endless opportunities

There are so many wonderful ways that you can use your basement space that it may be hard to choose the one that fits best with your needs.

Fall is an opportune time to get things ready before the holidays and winter arrive.
